The 22nd World Energy Congress (WEC) was held in Daegu (South Korea) in October 2013. The Congress met more than 5.000 active participants from 100 different countries with stakeholders (policy makers, CEOs from leading energy companies, industry experts and researchers) to debate the way to a sustainable energy future. In total 25.000 persons visited the Congress, the world’s premier event on energy and for the first time in history the ITER fusion project was present in this important event.
The rise of sustainable energies and alternative fuels as well as the development of new energy technologies is increasingly shaping the energy market. In this context, the ITER project was exhibited in the Congress and their Director-General participated in a Congress session entitled “Fusion: Betting on a different future?“. Smaller sessions to explain the ITER Project to the general public and an organisation of press conferences to speak up the benefits of fusion energy were held during the WEC 2013.
Under the theme “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today”, there were talks in the Congress about all sources of energy including oil and gas, nuclear power, etc. but the most relevant thing of this World Energy Congress edition was that the Fusion Energy and its more important project ITER was presented to the global energy community. This is common tendency in the current days where fusion energy is more present and it’s seen as a possible solution to the world energy problems.
