Sustainable energy sources are those energy sources capable of satisfying the current needs without compromising the future generations.

Sustainable energy sources are composed of renewable and alternative energies. The following list describes which are the sustainable energy sources;

  • Solar Power; is the conversion of sunlight into electricity using photovoltaics (PV).
  • Thermosolar Power; is the conversion of sunlight into electricity in a more efficient way using concentrated solar panels (CSP).
  • Wind Power; is the conversion of wind into electricity
  • Marine Power (Tidal, Wave, Osmotic, Marine Current Power and OTEC); is the conversion of energy carried by ocean tides, waves, salinity, marine currents and ocean temperature differences.
  • Geothermal Power; is the power generated from heat within the Earth.
  • Bioenergy; is the energy made available from materials derived from biological sources (biomass) and organic material.
  • Hydroelectric Power; is electrical power generated by falling or running water.
  • Fusion Energy; is the energy released when two nuclei fusion (are merged).

The production of clean and sustainable sources of energy is a need for our society if we want to a have a planet to be left to the future generations. The common understanding about the scarcity and  limitation of natural resources is the key point to move towards policies that supports the sustainable energy sources.

The use and promotion of sustainable energy sources and of energy efficiency techniques should be integrated in a society in which the sustainable development is promoted and in which should not exist:

  • an unreasonable decline of any natural resource
  • a signficant harm to the natural eco-systems
  • an unreasonable decline of the social stability
